Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
Atrial fibrillation is the most common rhythm disturbance. It can cause significant distress and reduction in quality of life. It increases the risk for stroke, heart failure and dementia.
People with atrial fibrillation may present with tiredness, palpitations, breathlessness or chest discomfort.
Dr Nagy offers treatment for people with atrial fibrillation with a combined approach of comprehensive lifestyle management and catheter ablation.
SVT (supraventricular tachycardia)
SVT can have a significant effect on quality of life.
People with supraventricular tachycardias such as AVNRT, atrial tachycardia or WPW syndrome may present with prolonged and intrusive palpitations, occasionally faintness, life threatening presentations are rare.
Dr Nagy offers catheter ablation for SVT. Catheter ablation provides a cure in the majority of patients.
Vasovagal syncope (Common fainting) Dysautonomia, Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS)
Autonomic disorders can significantly affect the quality of life of often very young and otherwise healthy patients with great burden of disease.
Patients with POTS or autonomic disturbances may have wide-ranging symptoms including dizziness, palpitations, exercise intolerance, hot flushes, excessive sweating and cold sweats, heat intolerance, excessive sleepiness after eating, and dizziness on standing up (orthostatic intolerance).
Dr Nagy offers treatment for dysautonomia, POTS, vasovagal syncope (common faint) and inappropriate sinus tachycardia, with compassion, comprehensive lifestyle advice, and, if needed, medication.
Meticulous attention to lifestyle can give patients significant symptom improvement, often without the need for long term medications.
Bradycardia (slow hear rate) and heart block
Cardiac pacemakers are one of the best examples of life saving technologies for abnormally slow heart rates and aging of the electrical system of the heart.
Patients with bradycardia, heart block and aging of the electrical system (conduction system) may present with sudden loss of consciousness, breathlessness, dizziness and occasinally life-threatening slow heart rates.
Dr Nagy offers pacemaker implantation using Left Bundle Branch Area Pacing (LBBAP) to all eligible patients. This novel technique aims to use the natural electrical system as much as possible.
Dr Nagy also performs Cardiac Resynchronisation Pacemaker (CRT-P) implantation. These complex devices may improve heart function in eligible patients with left bundle branch block.
Life threatening tachycardia (rapid heart beat) and sudden cardiac death
Pacemaker-defibrillators (ICD) are used to treat life threatning rapid heartbeats from the ventricles (bottom heart chambers). They can be used for certain patients who are at risk of life threatning arrhythmia (rhythm disturbances) or for patients who have survived a cardiac arrest.
Dr Nagy offers ICD implantation.
Dr Nagy also performs Cardiac Resynchronisation Defibrillator (CRT-D) implantation. These complex devices may improve heart function in eligible patients with left bundle branch block and also function as ICD devices to treat life threatning rapid heart rates.
Rare Transient oss of consciousness (T-LOC) episodes
Some patients have very rarely occurring symptoms of transient loss of consciousness (T-LOC). Although smartwatches and commercial ECG recorders are excellent aiding the diagnosis of certain symptoms, sometimes medical grade ECG recording is needed at the time of a rare loss of consciousness event.
Dr Nagy offers implantable loop recorders (ILRs). These devices can monitor every heartbeat for up to 3-4.5 years and are inserted under the skin. The device algorithms can recognise abnormal heart rhythms and store events automatically, and arrhythmia recording can also be initiated by the patient. Implantable loop recorders can give vital heart rhythm information about T-LOC events.
